The Corporate Spatial Warehouse (CSW) is a read-only central repository of spatial data. The warehouse stores corporate data collections in an easy to use, standardized and client specific manner. All data is modeled and has associated metadata. Each dataset has a designated custodian, who maintains the data and is accountable for the data standards.
Data in CSW
Consult our data catalog, or search Metadata to find CSW data.
Purpose of CSW:
- One common access point
- Ensure highest quality data is available, based on business needs
- Known quality documented in metadata
- Ensure standards are followed
- Data managed by appropriate data custodian (or designated data steward)
- Maintain data integrity by limiting insert, delete, and update privileges
Current work on CSW
Geomatics Yukon is continually adding layers to the CSW as new data becomes available. Over the last few years there has been a focus on migrating datasets from the legacy SDE database (SKY) to the CSW environment. The goal over the next 6 months is to remove the remaining layers from this database. A big focus for the coming year will also be to incorporate the new 1:50,000 topographic data set, CanVec, and the National Hydro Network data.
Geomatics Yukon is undergoing a process review of the procedures to load and maintain data in both the CSW and Operational environments. As a result of this review, Geomatics Yukon has started migrating from an Oracle approach to more of an ArcGIS approach. The goal is to develop a more streamlined process and to allow Geomatics staff, including data custodians, to be less reliant on contractors and more able to maintain the CSW and Operational environments.
