Imagery & Data: Imagery

Geomatics Yukon coordinates imagery purchases, storage, and distribution within the Yukon Government. Geomatics Yukon also provides support for orthorectification of imagery and compiling ground control data.

The following imagery is available to the public and can be freely distributed.  To download the footprint and/or imagery click on the appropriate link.  

• Low Resolution
  • Landsat5 - multispectral satellite imagery provided at 30 metre resolution (footprint only).
  • Landsat7 - multispectral satellite imagery provided at 15 metre resolution (footprint and imagery).
  • MODIS Blue Marble - multispectral imagery provided at 500 metre resolution (imagery)
  • Shaded Relief (300m) - 300 metre resolution hillshade of the entire Yukon (imagery)
  • Shaded Relief (500m) - 500 metre resolution hillshade of the entire Yukon (imagery)
• Mid Resolution
  • SPOT 4/5 - Natural Resources Canada - panchromatic imagery provided at a resolution of 10m (footprint and imagery)
• High Resolution
  • Orthophoto - City of Whitehorse - orthorectified traditional aerial imagery provided at 1m resolution. Higher resolution (0.25m) versions of this data is available upon request (footprint and imagery).
  • Orthophotos - Government of Yukon - orthorectified traditional aerial imagery provided at resolutions ranging from 0.3m to 1m (footprint and imagery)
  • Orthophotos - NRCan - orthorectified traditional aerial imagery provided through Natural Resources Canada at resolutions ranging from 0.5m to 2.5m.

The Yukon Government maintains a large amount of licensed imagery in their image repository.  This imagery is licensed to the Yukon Government and can only be used internally.  The following lists the licensed imagery by sensor and includes the footprints if they are available.

• Mid Resolution
  • Cartosat - panchromatic stereoscopic satellite imagery at a resolution of 2.5m.
  • IRS - panchromatic stereoscopic satellite imagery with a resolution of 5m.
  • Radarsat - panchromatic radar imagery provided at resolutions of 6.25m and 6.5m.
  • SPOT-5 - panchromatic imagery provided at a resolution of 5m.
• High Resolution
  • Ikonos - multispectral satellite imagery at 1m resolution.
  • Quickbird - multispecural satellite imagery at a resolution of 0.6m.
  • GeoEye - multispectral satellite imagery at 0.5m resolution.

If a First Nation government or an external contractor working with the Yukon Government requests this imagery it may be available through Geomatics Yukon by signing an imagery sharing agreement.  If you would like to make a request for a specific licensed image contact geomatics@gov.yk.ca.
