Corporate Spatial Data Infrastructure (CSDI) denotes those central, corporate services that support the collection, sharing and distribution of spatial data for the Yukon Government. It comprises the server hardware and software needed to implement those activities, the actual data stored on the servers, and the operations to support government-wide spatial data management.
The primary components are:
Corporate Spatial Warehouse (CSW) - The CSW is the main SDE repository of Yukon Government spatial layers. It is read-only, and as a result it is faster, more stable, and more reliable than an editable database. All data is fully modeled and contains metadata.
Operational environment - The operational environment contains Departments' operational spatial data. This environment will be based on a separate SDE server, or in some cases file-based repositories. The SDE database has restricted access with read/write capability, supporting Departments in the creation and continual updating of their data. This location does not allow for viewing of other departmental of branch data. Operational data is copied over to the CSW for viewing by other departments and the public.
Web Mapping (IMS/IMF) - The web mapping infrastructure is built on ESRI's ArcIMS and Moxi Media's IMF (Integrated Mapping Framework) technology. This infrastructure is available to all Yukon Government branches, and in some cases external agencies, to present data to public or internal clients. Publically released web maps are available through the Geomatics Yukon website as as well as various other Government of Yukon websites.
Metadata - All data in the CSW will contain metadata and will be searchable in both the CSW and on the web via Metadata Explorer.
The CSDI is intended for use by all Yukon Government departments. Geomatics Yukon has coordinated the CSDI initiative in conjunction with Energy, Mines & Resources' Informatics office and Environment's Geomatics group.
